Houdini the bull had broken out from his farm in northern Italy more times than anyone cared to count. He'd been living in the remote and secluded areas of the Apennine mountains, staying far away from his fellow creatures and avoiding any contact with humans.

Countless have searched for him, all in vain, some catching a quick glimpse of him in the far distance to lose sight of him again the next second.

Then something changed. Maybe it was the return of the migrating birds, maybe a change in the winds, or maybe his solitary lifestyle ate away at his soul.

One day, Riccardo Rossi, a veterinarian specializing in wildlife, received a call from the farm's owner.

Houdini was spotted near the farm, hanging out with his friends like nothing had happened.

But Houdini is a young Scottish Highland bull that has reached maturity and needs to be moved to greener pastures. He's now starting to threaten the old dominating bull, and to avoid conflict, he'll be moved to a different pasture on the other side of the mountain with his own flock of cows.

Today, Riccardo leaves his work at Piacenza Wildlife Rescue behind for a few hours to help safely, for humans and animals alike, capture Houdini and gently move him over the mountain in what Hemmingway called "the most beautiful valley in the world"—Val Trebbia—in the Emilia Romagna region of northern Italy.
